Using the pen for advertising

December 27th, 2007

In the manufacture of fountain pens, a large part of the work is hand labor, and the excellence of the pen depends to a large extent upon the skill and care exercised by the workman. Pure gold is too soft and not elastic enough to make a good gold pen, hence it is alloyed with a certain proportion of silver and copper. When the first ballpoint pen was invented this helped to make the pen more accessible to more people. The pen has evolved into a functional tool that is used by everyone and now comes in various types. There are ballpoint and gel pens where the ink is self contained and makes them easier to carry around that traditional ink pens. There are many companies that capitalize on the availability of pens by handing out personalized pens that can help them keep their brand or service top of mind for their customers.

Keep your eye on the birds

December 20th, 2007

This year I am going to ask my wife for a decent pair of binoculars for Christmas, so I intend to use the web to make my purchase, and do some research. I did not realize all the choices and brands that are available. I have an old pair that I think I got while I was in college, and have no idea as to the range these might have. The reason for my request is that I was at a football game with my son, and we were trying to use the binoculars, but they kept going out of focus and were a little fuzzy. I could tell this since our neighbor has 3 bird feeders and we were trying to identify some of the birds that were feeding and the binoculars were not able to stay focused and seemed really fuzzy.

I went to the How to Buy binoculars and was quite surprised that there are actually different types of binoculars recommended for different types of activities. for instance they recommend a air of binoculars with an 8X40 or 8X42 lens. So what exactly does this mean. Well according to the FAQ, the first number represents the magnification, or how large the image will appear in the binoculars. It was interesting to note that the higher the Magnification does not mean you will get better clarity, as the brightness of the object will go down. The second number represents the the lens size. So a 8X40 would have a larger lens than the 8X25. And this is the point I really liked, in that the larger lens will obviously let in more light, and be easier on the eyes.

Benefits of keeping your basement dry

December 16th, 2007

We have had basements in our last two homes and we recently purchased a dehumidifier. I can’t tell you the difference this has made in our basement and has helped to almost eliminate that musty smell that sometimes happens to basements. The musty smell can also mean that their is moisture in the carpet and walls which if left alone can lead to mold and allergens that can lead to various health problems. Most dehumidifiers are built to help take the moisture out of the air and will have a retention basin that will collect the moisture for disposal. Some will actually come with feature that will allow you to automatically pump the water out to a sump pump in your basement. This reduces the maintenance on your part and helps to keep the machine operating all the time. You will be amazed to see how much water will accumulate when you first plug in your dehumidifier.
