New and Improved WiMax is here
A new exciting wireless technology is soon to hit the streets called WiMax. It is similar to Wi-Fi but can now actually span several miles instead of several feet. This is great news to providers such as Verizon, Sprint, and others who would have otherwise needed to string cables to customer’s homes for some of the new technology. Many people built their homes with Cat5 cable and now with the speeder Cat6 and WiMax wireless some of those homes are already outdated. The systems while small that are in place today are called “fixed” WiMAx, which means that are limited to being able to have users roam between networks. Which for most laptop and PC users this does not pose a problem.
For the wireless handheld crowd this could be a concern, so the next wave of Mobile WiMax is being tested and should be more widely available soon. This technology allows the users to be handed between the wireless spectrums. The WiMax looks to promise faster speeds than even wired broadband, which will open the door for more rich content, and video based applications that are limited even on today’s high-speed mobile networks. This technology will help to make broadband available to parts of the country and world where traditional wired landlines are expensive and difficult to install.
