Since term is cheaper and considered more like renting your insurance it made sense to put some additional funds towards this policy as our kids were getting older. What we found interesting is that our broker noted that our rates would decline from our first policy since our credit score was much higher than when we had first taken out our policy. The best thing to do is get several life insurance quotes with both term and whole policy options to help you understand which might be the better value for you.
